Sound Advice
Thursday, 12 August 2010 11:00
Hi All!

I just returned from my first recruiting trip of the season. I was in NYC at Kaplan's "Road to Business School." It was a great event and fun to meet so many people interested in business school and Tuck. It got me really excited for the fall. During the event I sat on a panel of admissions officers from NYU, BU, UCLA and Tuck, and we shared our thoughts about the application process. At the end, the moderator asked us to each give parting words of advice, so I thought I would share some of the comments with you:

-Business school applications require a lot of self-reflection. Be sure to take time in advance to think about who you are, what your goals are and how an MBA will help you reach those goals.

-Get your financial house in order. Business school is expensive. Start thinking about how you are going to finance it. See if you can pay off some of your bills now so they won't be hanging over your head, start saving money.

-Be yourself. A lot of people think they have to be the "traditional business school applicant" and try to tell the admissions committee what they think the committee wants to hear, rather than what they really think. There are no right or wrong answers to the questions we ask. If you are yourself, your individual personality will come through, and you will be more able to differentiate yourself from the rest of the applicant pool.

-Have fun and don't get too stressed out. Business school applications are A LOT of work, but in the end, it will all be worth it.

You may be asking, "Why so many hats?"
Thursday, 12 August 2010 11:00

And, it is not because I am unable to decide! The many hats represent all that we are required to juggle as our team heads into a new Admissions season at Tuck. From hosting events all over the globe, to interviewing applicants, and reading applications...there is an amazing energy in the air at Tuck! I am preparing to head to Texas later this month for the Kaplan “Road to Business School” events in Houston, Dallas, and Austin, plus a Tuck reception in Dallas, and some Tuck Coffees in Austin. A colleague at Tuck was inspired by my upcoming travel and provided me with some Texas gear for the trip. And while a Tuck hat tops the list of my favorites, sometimes a shiny gold wig is necessary….like when schedules get hectic, applications start rolling in, or when I have a 9 hour flight with a connection plus a 3 hour layover…...you know how it is, sometimes you have to keep it light!

Looking forward to the excitement of the season and seeing you during my Tuck travels this year! Amy

Please see our upcoming events here and join us when you can!
